Sushmita Sen to play as Benazir Bhutto in a Pakistani film

Published by mbsiva under Entertainment Edit This

According to reports, former Miss Universe and Miss India Sushmita sen, is set to play the role of slain Pakistan leader and the country’s former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutt in a movie to be produced by Pakistani movie makers. The shooting of the movie will start once they get clearance from the Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Peoples Party.

She is said to be reading books and articles on Benazir, in addition to watching the footages and interviews. Filmstars from both India and Pakistan have crossed the border for star nights and cultural exchange programmes in the past. But in the wake of uneasiness prevailing between both countries, it is going to be really a tough ask for the movie makers to cast Sen in the movie for they have to get clearance from the Govt., the party and hardliners of Pakistan.

For Sushmita too, it is not going to be easy to sign up. Indian Government has never interfered in the fundamental rights of people and may not bar her from acting in a Pakistani movie, but in all chances, she could face the wrath of Shiv Sena, MNS, RSS, Bajrang Dal and other outfits

Slumdog Millionaire gets Oscar nomination

Published by mbsiva under Entertainment Edit This

Danny Bole sitting in his cabin must be wondering how many more surprises and turns are in store for his movie Slumdog Millionaire, for this movie has seen highs and lows, all in a short span of 10 days.

The first high came in the form of 4 Golden Globe awards and high appreciations, followed by strong criticism from a certain quarter including Amitabh Bachan. Then a legal suit was slapped against Anil Kapoor and A R Rahman and within the next 24 hours, we hear that Slumdog Millionaire has been nominated under 10 categories for Oscars and Rahman has been nominated for original score for two songs (Jai Ho and O Sayya)

Other categories for which the movie has been nominated for Oscars are, Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Adapted Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy), Best Sound Editing (Tom Sayers), Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Sound Mixing (Ian Tapp, Richard Pryke and Resul Pookutty), x and Best Film Editing (Chris Dickens).

The Oscar awarding ceremony will take place on 22nd of February

Anil Kapoor and A R Rahman in Legal Trouble

Published by mbsiva under Entertainment Edit This

It’s all happening for the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. After bagging 4 Golden globe awards, the movie makers and the music composer A R Rahman were on a high. The story of the movie won both appreciation and criticism back in India. While the majority saw it as a recognition of Indian talent in the international scene, few felt it portrays India in a bad taste. One of the prominent among the critiques was none other than Big B, Amithab Bachan.

Of course, it is not a denying fact that themes involving poverty, caste discrimination, war victims, prostitution etc., gets an automatic nomination for many awards by default. And the chances of winning an award is directly proportionate to the sufferings undergone by the leading characters in the movie. By this statement, I by no way desecrate the award the movie received. An honour by any name is an honour

Coming back to the fresh trouble the movie is encountering, an officer bearer of a Slum Dwellers body has filed a defamation suit against music composer A R Rahman and actor Anil Kapoor. According to the plaint the words ‘Slumdog’ paints slum dwellers as dogs and therefore has raised objections. The case has been posted for hearing on the 5th of February

In the meanwhile, the movie is all set to be released in India on the 23rd of this month in both Hindi and English version.

It’s time for Victory

Published by mbsiva under Entertainment Edit This

Ajitpal Mangat’s bollywood flick ‘Victory’, starring Harman Baweja, Anupam Kher and Gulshan grover all set to hit the screens. Also starring are cricket stars, Allan Border, Navjot Singh Siddhu and Mohinder Amarnath. The promos aired are very good and seems that the choreographer has worked over time to mix the shots involving Harman Baweja and current cricketers Brett lee and Vaas.

Anu Malik has composed the music and the promo song ‘Balla Utao, Chakka Lagao’ has already become a super hit. It should be interesting to see how this movie performs at the box office. Many movies have been made with Cricket as the central theme and only a handful of those were welcomed by the audience.

Lagaan starring Ameer Khan was a blockbuster which made others to do copy the formula without success. The recent release ‘Meerbhai notout’ starring Mandira Bedi and Anil Kumble, goofed up at the box office. But somehow this movie seems to be on a positive side. Though one cannot expect this movie to catch up with collections of Lagaan, it should fetch some decent return

Jackie chan and Mel Gibson to star in Indian movie?

Published by mbsiva under Entertainment Edit This

According to media reports, hollywood super stars Jackie Chan and Mel Gibson are likely to team up for a Mega English Movie to be produced by Aascar Ravichandran, under the banner of Aascar Movies. The producer’s last venture ‘Dasavatharam’, starring Kamalhasan in 10 different roles was a great hit in India. The screenplay was equivalent to hollywood flicks and proved to be a milestone for Indian Cinema. The accolades he won is set to have motivated Mr. Ravichandran to venture into movie casting Jackie Chan and Mel Gibson.

Jackie chan seems to have evinced his interest to act in an Indian movie during the audio release function of ‘Dasavatharam’ last year and Ravichandran had been holding discussions with the superstar since then. Though it has not been officially confirmed whether Mel Gibson too would co-star in the movie. But the production house is very much optimistic that the Brave Heart hero, will sign up.

Both the movie title and storyline has been kept as a secret.

Chandni Chowk to China - My Personal Review

Published by mbsiva under Entertainment Edit This

It is referred as CC2C in bollywood and I would like to add one more C. C for Cocktail. The Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone starrer, Chandni Chowk to China has everything in it, Humour, Action, Suspense, Glamour and all the ingredients required to make a bollywood movie. The stunt scenes are awful and the choreography is also good, but what was disappointing is the screenplay.

I am Sure, Akshay would have seen atleast a dozen of Jackie Chan movies and those few Dragon sequels of Bruce Lee too. There is no harm in watching such movies while you act in a movie with Chinese shadow. But I am just wondering, what made him to watch Jim Carrey’s hits too.

Deepika sizzles in dual role although she is just ornamental in the movie.

As with the storyline, Akshay is a vegetable chopper in New Delhi and few chinese monks who visit the city happen to meet Akshay and tell him that, he was their leader in the previous birth. What follows next forms the movie.

Kung fu movies have always generated huge collections in India.  ‘Enter the Dragon’ proved to be a great hit in all the theatres where it was screened in India.  Of course, I am not comparing CC2C with Enter the Dragon or with any Jackie Chan movies.

Had the screenplay been sketched well, giving importance to the theme, without those school boys kind of comedy, it would have been great. At the same time, I would not rate it is a bad movie. It can be surely watched along with your family, for your kids will definitely enjoy watching it

If you ask me, personally I am disappointed. I went to the movie with a great expectation (refer my earlier blog) by seeing the trailers only to learn that ‘Do not judge a book, by seeing its cover’.

Sanjay Dutt to contest from Lucknow

Published by mbsiva under Entertainment Edit This

Sanjay Dutt today has been nominated by the Samajwadi party to contest from the Lucknow seat in the upcoming Parliament election in India. The Lucknow parliamentary constituency is presently held by former Prime Minister Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The elections are scheduled to be held in April or May.

Politics is not something new to the Dutt family, for his father ‘Sunil Dutt’ was a veteran politician and has won many times from the Congress ticket. After his death, Sanjay’s sister, Priya dutt entered the political scene and emerge victorious.

Sanjay has seen many ups and down in his career. Starting as a young hero, he shot into fame through blockbuster movie, Kalnayak. However, his career took a back seat, as he was detained under TADA after the Serial blasts, that rocked Mumbai in 1993. He spent one year in prison before being released on Bail. His movie ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ was a superhit and paved way for a new term ‘Gandhigiri’.

In the meanwhile, the trial at the TADA court got over and Sanjay was awarded 6 years imprisonment. He spent close more than a month in jail before filing bail petition in the Supremen Court, which has granted him a bail. It must be noted that, his sentence has not been stayed yet, which means, he is still a convict. Only if the court acquits him or stays the earlier TADA court order, he can contest the election.

‘The President is Coming’ – An wholesome entertainer

Published by mbsiva under Entertainment Edit This

The new release from the Bollywood this week is ‘The President is Coming’. Directed by Kunaal Roy Kapur, the cast includes Konkana Sen Sharma, Shernaz Patel, Ira Dubey and Anand Tiwari. Going by the title, I assumed that the movie is all about murkier politics and red tapism, but I was in for a surprise.

The president referred here is not, the President of India, but George W. Bush. And if you think, the story is going to be like a bond movie or a desi hero, who thwarts assassination bid against the Bush, you are wrong again.

It is a simple story which has reference to US President’s visit to India in 2006. The the US embassy wants to select one young Indian, to handshake with the president and they want this one person, to be symbolize the youth in India. For this, they select 6 individuals from different background and all of them are put to vigorous training and selection procedure, including an photo identification test, which is sure to tickle your bones

I am not going to give any more hint on the screenplay or the climax, for you will lose the delight of enjoying an entertainer.
